MARY LEE DESMOND was born and raised on an organic farm in a suburb south of Boston. Producing images for as long as she can remember, Desmond found her niche in the world of art by channeling her imagination into photographs, videos, and multi-media imagery. Paying homage to life on the farm, many of her works expand on the idea of animal spirituality. Her personal ambition is to produce images that don’t always adhere to traditional photographic conventions in hopes of portraying her notions of a distorted perception.

Consider how much we take the sense of sight for granted. Our eyes are the lenses to our perpetual sensors - our brain. Images being fabricated with sight are stored into our memory at a lesser quality than when we originally viewed them. When we recall those images they are often skewed by our aesthetic norms, by our loss of memory over time, or merely by imagination itself. Envision what it would be like if we could produce physical images of how we actually view things in our minds. Marylee Desmond’s art strives to bend the barriers of your perception by reproducing elaborate images that emulate her own.

Today, Desmond co-owns a newly established facility (RED HOT BOX STUDIOS) focused on lens-based media in Cambridge, MA. Despite it’s fledging title, the studio has produced everything from live to highly produced photographs and music videos of such local acts and organizations like: Casey Desmond, The Cinnamon Fuzz, Polk Records, Sound Museum Rehearsal Spaces, The Magic Room Gallery, Out of the Blue Gallery, Embrace Your Awesome Productions, Barefoot Studios, OHDEERGOD, and many more. The studio also functions as private venue for gallery showings, open mics nights, and other private events.
